Pope returns to Episcopal fold
by Pat Ashworth
THE former Bishop of Fort Worth, the Rt Revd Clarence Pope, is reported to have returned to the Episcopal Church in the United States for a second time His faith journey, which started in the Episcopal Church, has included reception into the Roman Catholic Church in 1994, a return to Episcopalianism in 1995, and a move back to the RC Church last year (News, 17 August 2007). When he left the Episcopal Church after his resignation from Fort Worth in 1994, he was received into the RC Church at St Mary’s, Arlington, a former Episcopal church that transferred to RC authority in 1991. He applied to be ordained as a priest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but was refused by the diocesan council. He then returned to the Episcopal House of Bishops with the encouragement of the Presiding Bishop at that time, the Most Revd Ed Browning, and the Bishop of Fort Worth, the Rt Revd Jack Iker, whose diocese is now affiliated to the Southern Cone. |
